"It was nice timing," said David after seeing the Lewer Agency's ad. "I worked as a sales rep with another company for six years. I really liked what I was doing, but I knew there was a better way. I didn't know Lewer existed until I saw their ad, and then I thought it was too good to be true. I thought if there's a company really out there like Lewer, everybody would be working for it!"
"The Lewer Agency's sponsored markets were a big attraction for me," says David. "The whole marketing emphasis was on businesses, and that's what I was interested in. The Lewer Agency made what I wanted to do a lot easier. It has the sponsored markets and the products. The support I get is tremendous. My managers have all helped me in a big way. There really is a huge difference between where I was and where I am today. The guys at Lewer, who have a lot of knowledge, will even come out to Oklahoma to ride with me. That doesn't always happen with other companies. People at Lewer are interested. They want to do what they are doing. There's a great atmosphere."
"When I came into Kansas City for the new agent training school, everyone seemed competent," says David. "I liked the story about D. C. Lewer, the founder of the Lewer Agency, and how he got into the business. He called on Conoco several years and got things rolling. That's something I would have loved to do, only I would have stopped with Conoco. Mr. Lewer had the bigger vision. I joined the Lewer Agency because I'm interested in working with people I'd like to be like. I liked Mike Lewer's talk at the training school. It was very noticeable that the president asked questions and had a genuine interest in our responses. It wasn't the usual presidential talk. That kind of culture comes from the top."
"I like what I do," says David, "I like helping people. Insurance is a meaningful, useful product, and I think the whole process of sales is just fun. You can be a success in this business by just going to work every day."
Since joining the Lewer Agency just over a year ago, David has won three national "Marketing Representative of the Month" awards, and he was the winner of a sales contest in August that earned him a trip to Las Vegas. At just the nine-month mark, David's production in the field had him already sitting comfortably at 143 percent of his annual sales goal. He
is a contender for the 1999 'Rookie of the Year' award which will be
presented this spring during an awards ceremony at the El Conquistador Resort
and Country Club in Puerto Rico.
"You could earn good money at some of the other companies," he says, "but I have a better chance of achieving my goals at Lewer. I am building a client base, which I wasn't able to do before. It's worked out really well. Lewer's direction and my direction are the same."
